U-853 Trips
This season we are offering individual sign on scuba diving trips to the German submarine, U-853. Trips will be limited to six divers and run about every two weeks from May through September. These are full day, two tank dives with a second dive on a shallow wreck near Block Island. Advanced certifications, along with Northeast diving experience are the minimum training prerequisites for this deep dive. Divers are also required to bring their own gear (rentals available upon request). Reservations can be made with the link below or by contacting us directly, along with any questions or concerns.

Diving the U853
With over 50 shipwrecks to dive around Montauk and Block Island, the German submarine is by far the most requested. At a depth of 125', the wreck is within the recreational diving range, but still considered more of a technical dive due to the cold, dark conditions near the bottom. However, diving a nearly intact 252' submarine with a rich war history is often well worth it.
Water temps vary a lot throughout the season with June and July being on the cool side (~60-65 -surface, 45-55 bottom). August and September bring the warmest conditions (~70-75 - surface, 55-60 - bottom). Visibility on the wreck can also vary from less than 5' to well over 50' and time of year really doesn't play much of a roll in that, so hope for good luck and don't jinx it! All divers should carry a computer, redundant gas supply, SMB and wreck reel/safety spool.
